Rooftop Gardens in New York City

Today while I was surfing on Flickr I’ve found a set of pictures by an user called Jwilly’s entitled “Rich People Rooftops NYC”. The collection of pictures shows us rooftop gardens over the penthouses of New York, but is also a good example of what happends when you live in a big city. Not enough green so you make up for it by having potted plants all over the place. These little small places full of plants look great but I still preffer a real backyard. Los Andes House by Juan Carlos Doblado

Peru-based architect Juan Carlos Doblado has complete a spectacular new private house in the foothills of the Andes. With two concrete pavilions, one nestled into the shallow slope, the other cantilevered forwards across the site, the single storey building is all about simple geometry. The Los Andes House features floor to ceiling glasses and sliding glass doors, offering a unique perspective and view of the stunning landscape. A relationship between inside and outside, Doblado sure managed to impress with this modern house of admirable solidity and simplicity.

An amazing concept that exudes style and elegance, Fluid is a flexible faucet by German-based Kohler Design. With a sleek design, the Innovative faucet brags highly functional usage by doubling up as a drinking fountain. All it needs is a simple flick of your wrist to twist the knob on the side to control temperature, and the “nose” for positioning. A masterpiece of design and a unique addition for a contemporary bathroom, the smooth and sexy flowing lines got us sold in the first place.

Cutler House in Montauk, New York

We think that the Cutler House is the ultimate vacation home. Put up together in Montauk, New York, by the creative folks from Murdock Young Architects, the building was meant with a minimal impact on the surrounding landscape. The house is clad with a textured wood paneled exterior (that goes great with the large windows) and features a large swimming pool where you can get the perfect tan on a sunny day. But the house proves amazing on the inside, too. With contemporary furnishings and clean shapes that add style to a modern interior, there’s something about the Cutler House that makes it suited for a long weekend party. Don’t you think?

Mountain and Ocean: Sea Ranch Residence

San Francisco-based Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects have built a minimalist house with amazing views over the Pacific Ocean. Secluded on a hilly mountainous landscape, the Sea Ranch Residence is almost entirely clad in wood. Simple on the outside, the house charms with its warm interior that features cedar ceilings and sheetrock walls. With large windows that welcome natural light and contemporary furniture, the modern ranch looks like the perfect getaway for those who enjoy both the chilly nights in the mountains and the sunny days on the beach.

Improve the looks of a kitchen

While we lounge in the living room and sleep in the bedroom, it is often the kitchen that is our “favorite room”. After all, it is the kitchen that provides us with so many memories of great meals! While cooking can make a kitchen memorable, it would also be a nice thing if it was also memorable for its fine and stunning look. So, if your kitchen is barebones, it may be a good idea to consider remodeling it. This can be a very fun venture since remodeling the kitchen often comes with the potential for bringing out your creative side.

The baseline design of a kitchen is functional. It is commonly equipped with a stove, cabinets, and refrigerator. Again, this is all well and good as far as function goes. It also goes to show you that even small alterations to a kitchen can improve its overall look.

It would also be helpful to replace any old or dulled kitchen furniture. If a table has seen better days, then it might be best to replace so it no longer detracts from the kitchen. For those that may not have the budget to replace the table, purchasing a new tablecloth could do the trick as well. Again, the process of improving the look of a kitchen is rarely expensive or complicated. Often, it is small, simple modifications can yield tremendous results.

Develop a Home Office

These days, more and more people are working at home. There are many benefits to this. Namely, the ability to earn significant income while cutting down on the common travel related expenses. However, it is important to point out that in order for work at home ventures to be successful they must be organized. One of the ways to guarantee you stay organized is to properly develop a functional home office.

And, no, it is not all that tough to develop and devise a nice home office. In fact, you could probably convert any small room or even a portion of a larger room into an office setting. Of course, this is not a random process either. A few deliberate steps need to be taken to make sure a workspace is properly devised.

It is important to pick the right space for your home office. You do not want to select a space that is too small because that will lead to overcrowding which would lead to disorganization. Disorganization is the main thing you want to avoid when working so never undercut your productivity. Conversely, do not take too much space than you need as the unused space could be put to better use. So, how does one decide how much space will be necessary? Through defining what type of work will be performed and the volume that will be performed, the answer as to how much space is necessary will reveal itself.

It is also critical to purchase the right furniture items for a home office. A common table and chair will not cut it. They are not designed to facilitate a proper working environment. Instead, you will need a decent desk and comfortable office chair. This will make your work space more professional and more functional. Also, it will be important to purchase ancillary workspace items as well. This includes filing cabinets, lamps, and shelves. This way, the workspace becomes fully functional and able to serve various needs.

And do not assume that this type of furniture will be costly. Many functional office furniture setups can be purchased quit inexpensively and reasonably. Additionally, the office will save you a great deal of money by making your work quicker and more efficient.

It is also important to note a workspace is not just for professional venture. Taking care of household expenses, taxes, and other important business can be effectively conducted at a proper work station. That is why a home office is the perfect addition to any home.
